Feedspot recently ranked the In Pursuit of Development podcast as number six on their list of the world's 30 best international development podcasts. The ranking also includes podcasts from the Harvard Center for International Development, the Oxford Society for International Development and the Global Development Institute at the University of Manchester, which currently are ranked among the top five.
Feedspot is a website that discovers, categorises and ranks podcasts in several niche categories, and their ranking is based on factors such as relevancy, freshness, social media followers and engagements.
Over 100 episodes and listeners across 160 countries
In Pursuit of Development is the go-to podcast if you are interested in democracy, poverty eradication and climate change and want to have a deeper understanding of the politics of global development. Each episode discusses the experiences of developing and “emerging economies” in Africa, Asia and Latin America.While the podcast examines major global challenges and highlights various “problems”, it also highlights promising practices and what works on the ground.
The podcast is hosted by Professor Dan Banik at SUM. It began as a project during the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the first episode was published in June 2020. Since then, the show has produced over 100 episodes, featuring not only scholars, but also politicians, activists, UN and World Bank staff, aid officials, think tanks, journalists, entrepreneurs, influencers, and comedians.

– Over the last three years, I have had the pleasure of chatting with friends, mentors, and colleagues and having these conversations recorded and made available to a global audience currently spread across 160 countries. I’ve been fortunate to feature some absolutely fabulous guests. While some of these are world-famous and regulars on the global media and podcast circuits, others typically never do podcasts, but chose nonetheless to come on our show. What started as a project during the pandemic has over 100 episodes later turned out to be a very important part of my life. Indeed, I derive great pleasure from doing the show, says Dan Banik.
