At the School of Innovation, Design and Engineering our students are studying to be for example innovators, entrepreneurs, illustrators, communications officers, network technicians and engineers. Here we have the research specialisations of Embedded Systems, and Innovation and Product Realisation. Our work takes place in cooperation with and in strategic agreements with companies, organisations and public authorities in the region.

Positions description

In the role as Professor of Innovative Production, you are expected to actively contribute to the development of research and education in production development and to take a leading role in the national and international profiling of the group. The assignment includes further development of the educational programmes in production with a focus on increasing the element of, for example, battery production and the production of electric vehicles in connection with a green transition of the manufacturing industry, as well as working actively with the educational offerings aimed at professionals. You are expected to collaborate with other professors within the Academy of Innovation, Design and Technology as well as with other researchers at the university/colleges and in national and international research environments and with the surrounding society to jointly develop knowledge to contribute to the industrial transition.

The current position includes supervision of doctoral students and junior researchers You contribute to the development of the research area smart production and collaboration with external academic and industrial partners is of great importance. Teaching in the position is primarily at doctoral and master level.

Qualification requirements

We are looking for you who partly have documented teaching skills and partly have academic skills.

Academic skills will have been demonstrated by independent research work which to a significant degree exceeds the requirements for docent competence (see the University's Guidelines for assessment of docent competence). Importance is also attached to the planning and leading of research. Teaching skills will have been demonstrated by teaching at first-cycle as well as third-cycle levels.

Academic and teaching skills shall be documented in such a way that their quality can also be assessed.

The applicant should have completed ten weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge. A person appointed as a Professor but lacking training in higher education teaching and learning will be offered in-house training within two and a half years. The course in higher education teaching and learning at Mälardalen University corresponds to ten weeks of training.

In addition to the established basic eligibility requirements, according to the Appointment Regulations for MDU, some additional requirements apply to this position.

We are looking for you with proven skills in initiating and leading major research and collaboration initiatives. You have previous work experience from the manufacturing industry. Furthermore, we expect you to have documented experience of:

  • initiating and implementing major development and change projects in academia and industry.
  • management assignments in academia
  • research in production development, automation and innovative production
  • training for professionals in production development, automation and innovative production.
  • The position requires ability to communicate in Swedish and English both orally and in writing.

    Assessment criteria

    The assessment criteria will be based partly on the degree of skill required for the position and partly on the ability and suitability otherwise required to carry out the work duties.

    In addition to the established basic assessment criteria, according to the Appointment Regulations for Mälardalens University, some additional criteria apply to this position.

    In an overall assessment of suitability, emphasis is also placed on personal abilities. All employees at MDU are expected to cooperate and treat colleagues and students with respect, take responsibility for the organisation and their own work duties and contribute to a positive work environment.
