Position description

The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering is now looking for a PhD student. AI systems must take preventive measures against unintentional or unforeseen events. This requires the ability to assess, evaluate, and control risks in a dynamic environment. Additionally, various forms of adversarial attacks can emerge in AI domains. Effective solutions are needed to protect against these attacks, including mitigation strategies.

As a PhD student, you will be involved in designing, conducting, and disseminating research focused on securing AI systems against attacks and risks. This includes:

  • Developing methods to avoid or mitigate damage from hazard exposure and reduce AI risks in dynamic environments.
  • Developing innovative and systematic methods to detect, defend, and evaluate defenses against malicious actors.
  • Additionally, the student will be responsible for writing academic articles and completing the courses required for the PhD degree. The position may also include up to 20% teaching or other departmental duties.

    Qualifications

For basic eligibility, the following is required:

  • A degree at an advanced level.
  • At least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 are at an advanced level.
  • Equivalent knowledge acquired in Sweden or abroad through other means.
  • For this position, you must have a master's degree in computer science. Students with equivalent knowledge may also be admitted. Sound verbal and written communication skills in English is required.

    Assessment criteria

Prior to employment, consideration must be given to the ability to assimilate third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education.

In addition to this ability, special emphasis will be placed on the following:

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity techniques and machine learning algorithms. Candidates eager to learn and expand their knowledge in these areas are encouraged to apply.
  • A solid foundation in mathematics and statistics.
  • Knowledge of programming languages (including Python).
  • Knowledge of reliability assurance of systems is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) is an advantage.
