Position description

The School of Business Society and Engineering is excited to offer a unique position for a motivated and progressive individual to become a part of our vibrant team. Our search isn't limited to just an educator; we're looking for someone who is a creative thinker and can be a key player in both innovating and enhancing our current educational offerings.

In the role of Lecturer in Environmental Engineering, you will play a crucial role in defining the future of environmental education at Mälardalen University. Your main duties will involve teaching in our existing courses related to Environmental Engineering. Our educational offer is currently covering a broad spectrum of topics such as Wastewater Treatment, Climate Change, Resource Recovery, Renewable Energy, System Modelling, Atmospheric Pollution and Real-Time Analysis). The teaching includes planning and conducting lectures, seminars, designing and correcting assignments as well as written and oral exams. The position also includes being responsible for courses and managing courses on our digital learning platform Canvas.

A particularly thrilling part of this position is the chance to be involved in the creation of a new bachelor program in Environmental Engineering. We are dedicated to remaining at the forefront of environmental engineering, and we welcome explorations into new and evolving areas of this field. As a Lecturer, you will have the opportunity to bring your knowledge and perspectives to the development of a new programs.

In addition to your role as a teacher, you will also be integrally involved in laboratory duties. This includes overseeing and participating in lab experiments, contributing to hands-on research, and assisting students and researchers in their practical applications.

Collaboration is an integrated part of the university's research and education mission, and as a university lecturer, you actively contribute to the university's development work. The tasks also include general administration, competence development and participating in the daily operations of the subject and the academy.

Qualifications requirements

The qualification requirements for appointment as a Lecturer at Mälardalen University are a Master's degree or equivalent competence, as well as documented teaching skills. We are looking for candidates for the Lecturer position in Environmental Engineering who possess a blend of academic and practical expertise.

Teaching skills shall be well documented in such a way that their quality can also be assessed.

In order to be employed as a teacher at MDU, training in higher education teaching and learning, or equivalent acquired knowledge, is required. A person appointed as a Senior Lecturer but lacking training in higher education teaching and learning will be offered in-house training within two and a half years. The course in higher education teaching and learning at Mälardalen University corresponds to ten weeks of training.

In addition to the established basic eligibility requirements, according to the Appointment Regulations for MDU, some additional requirements apply to this position. These are:

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field, or corresponding knowledge acquired through work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching.
  • Very good skills in English language, both written and spoken.
  • Assessment criteria

    The assessment criteria will be based partly on the degree of skill required for the position and partly on the ability and suitability otherwise required to carry out the work duties.

    In addition to the established basic assessment criteria, according to the Appointment Regulations for Mälardalens University, some additional criteria apply to this position. These are:

  • A creative and forward-thinking approach to education and research, with an enthusiasm for developing cutting-edge educational programs in environmental engineering.
  • Excellent communicative skills and the ability to explain complex things in different ways.
  • Very good skills in various presentation techniques.
  • Good computer skills are necessary and be able to handle various programs and tools such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Industry experience or practical experience in environmental engineering or related areas, in Sweden and/or international.
  • Collaboration with the ambient society
  • Familiarity with a variety of teaching methods and curriculum development.
  • Experience of distance learning operated via digital learning platforms as well as experience of digital tools that facilitate learning
  • Competence in managing and conducting laboratory experiments and/or practical work.
  • Knowledge in the Swedish language.
  • In an overall assessment of suitability, emphasis is also placed on personal abilities.
