Oklahoma lawmakers pass 6-week abortion ban modeled after Texas law that allows civil enforcement

By Veronica Stracqualursi, CNNOklahoma lawmakers on Thursday gave final approval to a bill modeled after the controversial Texas abortion law, which allows private citizens to take civil action against abortion providers to enforce the law. The state Senate later Thursday also passed House Bill 4327, similar to SB 1503, allowing private citizens to bring civil lawsuits against abortion providers. The bill would prohibit civil action against certain individuals, including the woman who had the abortion or sought the procedure. SB 1503 passed the Republican-majority state House on Thursday in a 68-12 vote. “Oklahoma is a critical state for abortion access right now, with many Texans fleeing to Oklahoma for abortion care.
