Job description

About us

The CRUK Scotland Institute is a cancer research institute, situated in Glasgow with approximately 250 researchers split across 30 research groups consisting of PIs, postdoctoral scientists, PhD students and scientific officers. It is one of Europe's leading cancer research centres, supporting cutting-edge work into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. As well as core support from Cancer Research UK, the Institute also receives an additional third of its total income from external grants and industry collaborations. It has an excellent reputation for fundamental cancer research, including world-class metabolism studies and renowned in vivo modelling of tumour growth and metastasis. Its research ethos is about excellence, honesty, openness, accountability, and integrity.

Project outline

The Advanced Technology Proteomics Facility is at the forefront of developing and applying state-of-the-art mass spectrometry (MS)-based platforms for quantitative analysis of biological samples. From single protein analysis to in-depth proteomics and post-translational modifications (PTMs), we push the boundaries of understanding tumour biology and for biomarker discovery.

Why Join Us?

As part of our team, you'll have the exciting opportunity to work with high- end MS technology, including our current Q-Exactive HF and Orbitrap-Lumos instruments, with one of the latest generation MS instruments arriving soon. You'll also gain hands-on experience with advanced tools like AssayMAP Bravo for streamlined sample preparation.

  • Operating mass spectrometers and associated systems.
  • Performing regular instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Utilizing data analysis platforms to extract meaningful insights.
  • Collaborating closely with top researchers and contributing to the development of innovative MS methods and protocols.
  • What We're Looking For

We're seeking a driven and talented scientist who shares our passion for advancing proteomics and cancer research. You'll bring:

  • A relevant degree and strong lab skills in the proteomics field.
  • Proven experience in sample preparation, Orbitrap mass spectrometry, and liquid chromatography (LC) techniques.
  • Familiarity with MS data analysis using key software (MaxQuant, Perseus, Spectronaut, Skyline) is a plus, though not essential.
  • Your Skills and Attributes

Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work closely with multidisciplinary teams of scientists.
