The Department of Occupational Therapy has a funding agreement target to provide undergraduate education leading to a professional degree and a Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy. The program is conducted through course-based studies over three years, with the first year consisting of studies in occupational science and anatomy and physiology. The second year focuses on the occupational therapy process in various fields of practice, along with associated medical subjects. The focus of the third year is research methodology, the bachelor's thesis, innovation, and pedagogy in occupational therapy, and it concludes with a course in leadership. The clinical training takes place over a total of 21 weeks, most of which are scheduled in the second and third years. The department also offers independent courses at an advanced level in occupational therapy and can award an advanced level degree in occupational therapy.

The Department of Occupational Therapy (https: // www. gu.se/studera/hitta- utbildning/arbetsterapeutprogrammet-v1art) has a creative research environment and extensive collaboration with interdisciplinary research groups both nationally and internationally. The research focuses on the relationship between daily activities and health across the entire age span, from children to older adults. Research groups based at the department include the TIDAS research group, focusing on methods for early identification, treatment, and support for individuals to maintain their ability to work and reduce their need for sick leave. The ProDo research group, focusing on the opportunities and barriers in the actions of children, adolescents, and adults with disabilities due to neurological issues. The department also has a close collaboration with the FRESH research group, which focuses on the health of older adults. At the department and within the research groups, we have PhD students, junior and senior researchers with broad expertise, including knowledge of occupational therapy, occupational science, medicine, health, and social sciences, as well as in qualitative research, epidemiological methods, randomized controlled trials, and instrument development.

Subject area description

Occupational Therapy, grounded in occupational science, encompasses the knowledge and study of human occupation as related to doing as well as negotiating physical/social environments in temporal and cultural contexts. Furthermore, occupational therapy and occupational science encompasses knowledge about how habits, lifestyle, motivation and contexts impact on the ability to engage in occupations situated in everyday life. Occupational science and occupational therapy draw on other areas such as medicine, humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and technology to study and understand the complexity of human occupation.

Duties

The position includes teaching and research. The educational environment has a strong focus on student-centered learning. The main responsibilities consist of theoretical and practical teaching of occupational therapy students at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, where the applicant's professional experience will be applied in a various teaching situations.

The teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English. The position includes conducting research, actively seeking external funding, and contributing to the development of the primary field of occupational therapy and occupational science.

Eligibility

Eligibility for an appointment as a teacher is specified in the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg.

The requirements are that the applicant has demonstrated pedagogical competence, has a PhD in the area of occupational therapy, or in areas deemed by the employer to be closely related, as well as being a licensed occupational therapist (Swedish or foreign license) with clinical professional experience. The ability to teach in both Swedish and English is also a requirement.

Assessment criteria

The assessment criteria for appointment as a teacher is specified in the Higher Education Ordinance and in the Appointment Procedure for Teaching Posts at the University of Gothenburg.

Pedagogical and scientific competence will be assessed based on the criteria in the Higher Education Ordinance, with an emphasis on pedagogical skills.

Pedagogical competence will be assessed through evaluation of the applicant's teaching portfolio in relation to course objectives, learning activities, and the needs of the students. Furthermore, the applicant is expected to have the ability to actively work towards a positive study environment, to encourage, as well as stimulate students' learning. Development and evaluation of courses, teaching, and supervision within the main field will also be part of the assessment. Pedagogical competence should be supported through documentation or through contacts that can verify the applicant's competencies, for example, through course evaluations, references from students, or from a course coordinator.

Course administration competencies will be assessed through evaluation of the applicant's ability to have course responsibility and associated tasks, such as course planning, examinations, course syllabus work, as well as administration and use of related digital systems. Competencies should be documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality of teaching at undergraduate and/or advanced levels.

When assessing scientific competencies, special emphasis will be placed on documented ability to conduct research within the main field of occupational therapy/occupational science. The assessment will be based on scientific publications and obtained research grants. Prior experience supervising PhD students is considered a strength.

When assessing clinical competencies, emphasis will be placed on documented extensive clinical experience/specialist expertise, development of clinical work, and the implementation of research in clinical practice within the area of occupational therapy.

Permanent employment, full time 100 %. The position and is located at The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. First day of employment as agreed.

If the applicant does not have formal university pedagogical training at the University of Gothenburg, the applicant is expected to have completed university pedagogical training or acquired equivalent knowledge within one year of the employment date. The assessment of such university pedagogical merits shall be conducted in a special order in accordance with the decision of the Vice-Chancellor.
