Description
The Faculty of Health, Science and Technology is now accepting applications for a position as senior lecturer in environmental and energy systems, specialising in the analysis and modelling of energy engineering systems, within the Department of Engineering and Chemical Sciences. The department offers education and conducts research in energy and environmental engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, and building and construction engineering, and has approximately 60 members of staff. The department is responsible for two MSc programmes in engineering, two BSc programmes in engineering and a bachelor’s programme in chemistry.
The position is directly tied to our two degree programmes in energy and environmental engineering:
- Master of Science Programme in Energy and Environmental Engineering
- Bachelor of Science Programme in Environmental and Energy Engineering
The programmes prepare future engineers to drive the energy transition, develop sustainable engineering systems and contribute to a resource-efficient business sector. We are seeking a candidate who wants to shape the next generation of energy engineers while strengthening our research profile in the systems analysis of energy engineering and industrial processes.
Research environment and profile
The degree programmes and current research activities are closely linked to the subject’s research environment and to the department’s interdisciplinary research environment, Pro2BE.
Pro2BE focuses on sustainable process industries, energy efficiency, circular material flows and the analysis of engineering systems. As a senior lecturer, you will work closely with these two research environments and contribute expertise in the modelling of energy engineering systems. In 2026, Pro2BE was granted funding from the Knowledge Foundation for the profile initiative Infinity Fiber, and the forest-based bioeconomy constitutes an important strategic area for both the university and the wider region.
More information about Pro2BE: https://www.kau.se/en/pro2be
Duties
The main duties include teaching in the fields of energy and environmental engineering, with a particular focus on courses covering energy systems and energy engineering, industrial electrical systems, engineering systems analysis, and sustainable development and resource efficiency.
You will plan, deliver and assess courses; contribute to course and programme development; work closely with industry partners on projects addressing challenges in energy and environmental engineering; and participate in collaborative activities associated with Pro2BE and the university’s testbed facilities.
You are also expected to be a researcher with expertise in modelling, capable of complementing ongoing research in environmental and energy systems from a systems analysis perspective. In addition, you are expected to contribute to research funding applications, supervise doctoral students and take an active role as a researcher within Pro2BE.
The role may also involve administrative responsibilities within the department. In addition, you are expected to collaborate with the wider community for a mutual exchange, as well as work towards ensuring that the knowledge and expertise available at the university is of benefit to society. To contribute to a positive work environment and further the department’s activities, we expect you to be a present and active part of the day-to-day operations and workplace community.
