The Department of Forest Biomaterial and Technology (SBT) at SLU consists of about fifty employees (of which approx. 3/4 are located in Umeå and approx. 1/4 are located in Uppsala) and four divisions (Forest Operations, Wood Science, Biomass Technology and Chemistry, as well as the BTC Biomass Technology Centre). The department currently has research with a focus on forest technology, logistics, wood science and technology, and technical biomaterial science.

Subject AreaThe subject of the position is wood science and technology with a focus on wood chemistry.
DutiesThe research will focus on chemical interactions between wood polymers and synthetic or natural substances used to manufacture and improve wood-based products.
Furthermore, the research is expected to focus on an increased understanding of the anatomical structures of wood, material properties, and how these are affected by various methods and processes applied in wood science and technology.
The holder of the position shall
Non Swedish-speaking staff members are expected to, within four years of first being employed, have sufficient knowledge of Swedish/Scandinavian to understand information in Swedish. The department will support the holder to achieve this.
