The Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, at the Institute of Medicine, conducts translational research primarily on metabolism, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease in order to improve health and healthcare in the community. The overall goal is to create an excellent translational research environment of a very high international standard.

Several research groups in the department conduct epidemiological/genetic research.

Duties

Analysis of large data sets from clinical population cohort studies, and smaller stable isotope kinetics studies to elucidate lipid metabolism. Special focus is on postprandial lipid metabolism and on studies elucidating how unusual genetic variants affect lipid metabolism, as well as on studies elucidating atherogenicity of different lipoproteins. Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students, communication of research results, and some responsibility for coordinating the projects are also part of the duties.

Qualifications

PhD in a subject relevant to the tasks. Significant documented experience in statistical analyses, bioinformatics, and multi-compartment analysis (SAAM II) of stable isotope kinetic studies is required for the position. Significant documented experience working with genetic biobanks, such as the UK biobank is also required. Experience in analysing cardiovascular risk factors and ability to obtain external research grants is highly meritorious. We place great emphasis on personal suitability with a focus on initiative, ability to work independently and responsibility. The applicant must be fluent in written and spoken English.
