The Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, at the Institute of Medicine, conducts translational research primarily on metabolism, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease in order to improve health and healthcare in the community. The overall goal is to create an excellent translational research environment of a very high international standard.

Pathological conditions, e.g. obesity, diabetes and myocardial ischemia, are associated with increased lipid accumulation in the heart. Elevated levels of myocardial lipids are associated with cellular and tissue dysfunction, and are believed to contribute to reduced heart function. We are now recruiting a researcher to investigate the role of cardiac lipids for cardiomyocyte function.

Duties

Cardiomyocyte isolation and culture, perform calcium imaging and contractile cardiomyocyte assessments, studies of heart function with genetically modified mouse strains, work with confocal microscopy, gene analysis with qPCR, gene silencing, protein analysis.

Qualifications

PhD in relevant subject. Significant experience with cell culture techniques, in particular with isolation and culture of primary cardiomyocytes. Expert knowledge and experience in calcium imaging is a requirement. Methodological expertise with genetic alterations of cell protein and gene expression and their analysis with qPCR and quantitative immunoblotting. Experience with confocal microscopy. The applicant's personal suitability is of great importance, such as independence, initiative and cooperation skills.
