Login and applyUppsala University, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology
The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology (IMBIM) at Uppsala University provides a broad international environment for research and teaching. IMBIM conducts basic research in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, tumor biology, comparative genetics, functional genomics, immunology, bacteriology, and virology. The department's research is primarily basic in nature, but its applications have a clear connection to, and significance for, health and disease in both animals and humans. A more detailed description is available at Research – Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology – Uppsala University.
The Medical Inflammation Research (MIR) Group led by Prof. Rikard Holmdahl at the department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology (IMBIM), Uppsala University, aims to improve human health by identifying the regulatory pathways of autoimmune diseases. A basis of this research some of the major genetic polymorphic alleles associated with autoimmune diseases in experimental animals have been identified and unique mouse strains developed.
We are looking for an experienced researcher to lead and coordinate projects with a focus in driving the research, development, and validation of the humanized mouse model.
You will have the opportunity to collaborate with leading experts, access cutting-edge resources, and contribute to transformative discoveries that can shape the future of autoimmune disease treatment.
Your mission
You will be involved incollecting and synthesizing existing scientific evidence and generating new data to characterize the asset for key stakeholders in rheumatology research, as well as exploring broader applicability across other research areas, as well as in overseeing and manage the animal model platform for other scientists and researchers. You will lead the design, execution, and reporting of in vivo and in vitro experiments to characeterise and validate the humanized mouse strains as a model to evaluate the efficacy and generate mechanistic insights of candidate immunotherapies targeting autoimmune diseases and other conditions, and to address key questions that shape the future of autoimmune disease treatment. You will be working with immunology-oriented research including in vivo experiment, immune assays and flow cytometry, and expression analysis.
In addition, the role includes developing experimental proposals for other users, with the aim of attracting new scientific interest, collaborators, and funding opportunities. You are also expected to contribute to scientific publications and participate in the supervision of master students and teaching.
Required Qualifications
Doctoral degree, or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree, in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Immunology or a related field. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered an advantage if you have and a long experience with animal models. Relevant advanced research experience in mouse handling, mouse breeding and genotyping, animal experimentation (including surgical procedures), disease models, as well as experience with laboratory cellular biology work. Strong background in genetics, immunology, biochemistry, biostatistical analysis, flow cytometry, antibody based immune assays as well as in vivo autoimmune disease models will be considered valuable. Proficient knowledge of English
We place great importance on personal suitability and are looking for highly creative and motivated employees who appreciate working in a team. We expect the applicants to show good collaboration skills and at the same time great independence.
