Språkbanken Text https:// spraakbanken.gu.se at Department of Swedish, multilingualism, language technology is a division of the national Swedish e-research infrastructure Nationella språkbanken (National Language Bank of Sweden), as well as a research unit with several ongoing externally funded research projects. Ever since its establishment in the mid-1970s, the main activities of Språkbanken Text have been development of digital language resources and language technology (LT) tools for working with linguistically annotated text corpora, and building and maintaining an LT-based research infrastructure in support of research based on language data. At present approximately 35 people – professors, lecturers, researchers, PhD candidates, and research engineers – are employed in Språkbanken Text.

Job assignments

The duties of the announced position consist in development of our LT infrastructure. In addition to development of our present (and future) research platforms – for example Korp https:// spraakbanken.gu.se/korp – the duties will include development of analysis tools and machine learning models for high-quality LT-based processing of large volumes of text for deployment in research and education. Our R&D is conducted in a heterogeneous technical environment mainly comprising open source code and free software.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Several years' experience of working with modern machine learning methods (for instance deep-learning neural network architectures).
  • A university degree (master, Swedish magister, or bachelor) in language technology, computer science, or equivalent.
  • Native speaker of Swedish, Danish or Norwegian, or alternatively documented ability to understand written Swedish.
  • Additional qualifications sought:

  • Practical experience of modifying, extending and maintaining existing software on Linux or Unix platforms will be considered a merit, in particular experience of development of large and complex systems under a long-term perspective.
  • Practical experience of work on LT-based research infrastructures or/and R&D projects will be considered a merit, in particular experience of large-scale LT-based text processing.
  • Practical experience of multiple programming paradigms will be considered a merit.
  • Contributions to open-source software development will be considered a merit, in particular LT applications.
