The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 56 000 students and 6 600 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

The focus of activities at the International Centre is on making an active contribution to internationalisation efforts at the University of Gothenburg. We attempt, through cooperation with partner universities around the world and with the University's faculties and departments, to create opportunities for internationalisation in education, both abroad and within Sweden. The University's summer school is also project-managed from here.

The summer school is held from 27 June to 2 August, in Gothenburg. We are now looking for two project assistants who are interested in coordinating the summer school activities and contributing to the design and implementation of the social programme. Together with your colleague you will also be the primary contact for participating students. If you would like to work in an international context during the summer, with great opportunities for personal and professional development, this is the perfect job for you! More information about the summer school can be found via the link below.

Summer School for Sustainability

Duties

Your primary task, together with the summer school's project managers, course leaders and others involved, will be to make the summer school an unforgettable experience for the participants. Students travel to Gothenburg from all parts of the world to develop their knowledge in sustainable development, network and explore summer-time Gothenburg and surrounding areas during five intensive weeks. The summer school also has Swedish participants.

The first three weeks of employment will be devoted to taking part in planning and preparations for the summer school's social programme and activities outside the classroom. Once the program starts, you will help coordinate the welcoming of the students, be present on the summer school's premises during the weekdays when teaching is in progress, and coordinate and take part in excursions, events, and study visits. Supporting students and helping with any queries that might come up is an important part of the job. You will also be responsible for creating content for GU's social media. Communication with the student group is done in English, but there are also situations where you may need to communicate with colleagues or external stakeholders in Swedish.

When the summer school has come to an end, you and your colleague will be responsible for conducting a number of surveys to gather information about how the students experienced the summer school, and then write an evaluation report for submission to the project leaders.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • You are currently studying or have studied at the University of Gothenburg and have a relevant academic education.
  • You have experience in coordinating activities and/or events, whether on a larger or smaller scale, preferably in an international context.
  • You have a genuine interest in sustainability issues.
  • You can express yourself fluently in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Merits:

Considering the profile and design of the summer school, we hope to find that you actively participate in student union activities, volunteer organizations, or other aspects of community life. Having international work or study experience, such as through exchange programs or internships, is also beneficial. Having participated in or worked with past editions of the Summer School for Sustainability or similar initiatives is regarded as an asset, along with a solid understanding of the Gothenburg area and awareness of sustainability stakeholders in and around Gothenburg.

You have extensive social skills and enjoy working outwardly with people from different backgrounds, even in a sometimes fast-paced environment. It is crucial that you are service-oriented, flexible, and structured in your approach to work. You have a strong drive to translate ideas into practice through dialogue with others and are meticulous. It is also important that you thrive in an environment characterized by close collaboration with various stakeholders and in interactions with people from all corners of the world.
