The Department of Engineering Sciences and Mathematics is seeking a Professor and Head of subject/Chaired Professor in Electric Power Engineering. Luleå University of Technology is situated at the forefront of the green transition, where electrification and electric power engineering play a pivotal role.
The research subject of Electric Power Engineering contributes significantly to the university's strategic goal of creating global societal benefit from an Arctic perspective by conducting research and education on the construction and operation of secure and reliable power systems. The subject is crucial from regional, national, and international perspectives. With the increasing demand for electricity driven by the green transition and the electrification of various sectors, the availability of electrical energy has gained socio- economic, geopolitical, and security significance. This highlights the pressing need for a profound understanding of the growing complexity in power system structures and the interaction between components in electric power engineering.
We are now seeking a leader to further develop the subject as the current Professor and Head of subject/Chaired Professor transitions to a new role. The staff and laboratory resources for this subject are based at our Skellefteå campus. The subject employs about 20 people, the majority of whom are doctoral students, and contributes to various educational programs at Luleå University of Technology. Electric Power Engineering is a strong research area with a solid reputation, stable finances, and numerous publications.
Subject DescriptionElectric Power Engineering encompasses the study of sustainable systems for electricity generation, transmission, and the interaction between power grids, electricity generation, and energy use.
DutiesThe position of Professor and Head of subject includes overall responsibility for leading and developing the subject, including research, postgraduate education, and education at the undergraduate and advanced levels. The role includes securing external funding and engaging with stakeholders in society. A key responsibility is building a strong research field where the team grows and develops. This is a permanent position.
QualificationsQualified for an employment as a professor is someone who has demonstrated both research expertise and teaching expertise. As much attention must be given to the assessment of teaching expertise as to the assessment of research expertise.
