About the role
The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 58 000 students and 6800 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry. The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher employment at the Department of Psychopharmacology. The department has a long and strong tradition of research in psychopharmacology, which today encompasses both clinical and experimental studies as well as data analysis of clinical and epidemiological data.
Subject area
Psychopharmacology
Subject area description
Psychopharmacology encompasses studies of how drugs affect mood, thoughts and behaviour, as well as how drugs can be used to treat psychiatric disorders. The field brings together knowledge from psychiatry, pharmacology, psychology and neurology to understand how drugs affect brain chemistry and neuronal communication.
Job assignments
The project concerns the evaluation of the effects and adverse effects of interventions for depression and ADHD through meta-analyses at the study and individual participant levels, with a particular focus on the conditions under which different analytical methods (conventional meta-analysis, network meta-analysis and individual participant data meta-analysis) may produce conflicting results.
The postdoctoral researcher will primarily analyse data from clinical trials in which the effects of interventions for depression and ADHD have been evaluated. Depending on the postdoctoral researcher’s research interests, the project may also include experimental work related to the mechanisms of action of psychopharmaceuticals. The project may also include studies of the use of psychopharmaceuticals at the population level and the consequences of such use through the analysis of registry data.
The postdoctoral researcher is expected to independently conduct research projects under supervision and report regularly to the rest of the research group. The postdoctoral researcher is also expected to contribute to student supervision, for example as a supervisor of degree project students and/or as a co-supervisor of doctoral students, as well as to teaching. Specific duties include data management, data analysis and data visualisation of data from clinical studies and registries using Python/R, with methods such as machine learning and network meta-analysis.
