The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology conducts high-quality research and education in chemical sciences and molecular life sciences. Our research and education focus on a deep understanding of chemical and biological processes in cells and in the environment. We are responsible for postgraduate education in the subject area Natural Sciences with a focus on chemistry, biophysics, biology and educational science. In addition, the department hosts educational programs in molecular biology, genomics and systems biology, chemistry, organic chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry, as well as prescription education. The department is an international environment with interdisciplinary collaborations in both research and education and contributes strongly to the University of Gothenburg's top ranking in life science. We are located in central premises at Natrium, Medicinareberget, Gothenburg.

Prof Margit Mahlapuu's research group focuses on studying the molecular mechanisms and new treatment strategies of type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, and related complex metabolic diseases with high unmet medical need.

Duties

The work description includes experimental work within metabolic disease area combining translational studies in cell culture, using human tissue samples, and genetically modified animal models, applying both the molecular biology tools as well as physiological assessments.

Qualifications

Required education, knowledge and experience, personal qualities – compulsory must

The successful applicant has educational background (PhD level) within molecular biology or related subject area, with knowledge of techniques and methods which are used within molecular biology research. Previous experience with culturing mammalian cells and studies in experimental animals is a requirement as well as excellence in to sectioning, staining, and histological analysis of tissue samples.

Merit education, knowledge and experience, personal qualities – should have

Previous studies using methods like qRT PCR, Western blot, and ELISA is considered an advantage.

Employment

The employment is a time-limited position, collective agreement Postdoctor for 2 years on fulltime (100%), with a potential possibility to extend with 1 additional year, placed at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology in Gothenburg, Sweden.
