The Night Supervisor is responsible for supporting the Night Manager in leading and managing the University's overnight operations, ensuring a safe, secure and welcoming environment across the campus and residential estate for staff, students and members of the public. The role has direct supervisory responsibility for Security Officers and provides operational leadership and coordination across overnight accommodation, residence life, cleaning and campus support services.

The post operates on a rota basis covering 12-hour shifts between 6.00pm and 6.00am, three shifts per week. Attendance at daytime training events, University events and operational planning activities will occasionally be required.

Whilst the role provides operational direction and coordination across multiple service areas, line management responsibility for Accommodation Operations Assistants and other support teams remains with their respective managers.

  • Deploy resources effectively to meet operational priorities, business requirements and service demands across campus and the residential estate
  • Oversee the safe and effective operation of accommodation, campus facilities and public spaces during the night
  • Maintain a visible operational presence through inspections, patrols and stakeholder engagement, identifying operational risks and implementing appropriate mitigation measures
  • Support operational planning and delivery for student arrivals, departures, commercial operations, graduations, open days and other key University events

  • Coordinate responses involving Accommodation Services, Estates, Student Services, University management and external emergency services, exercising independent judgement when making operational decisions
  • Support safeguarding and welfare interventions involving vulnerable students and campus users
  • Ensure incidents, accidents, complaints, near misses and emergencies are effectively managed, accurately documented, investigated where required and escalated appropriately
  • Provide detailed handovers, reports and recommendations following significant incidents or operational issues

  • Monitor overnight service standards, addressing areas of concern and supporting the achievement of departmental objectives, operational targets and key performance indicators
