The Academy of Music and Drama is located in central Gothenburg and is part of the Artistic Faculty at the University of Gothenburg. The Academy of Music and Drama educates musicians within a range of genres, as well as composers, teachers of music, dance and drama, musical and performance artists, opera singers and actors, and has more than 600 students. The Academy also carries out development work, third-cycle education and research, and extensive outreach activities, and has almost 200 employees. Together with our sister academy, HDK-Valand, we are the broadest faculty of our kind in Scandinavia.

Musical performance with specialisation in interpretation – trombone and ensemble

Work duties

The main duties are individual teaching and masterclasses on the main instrument trombone as well as ensemble teaching, for example: sectional rehearsals, brass ensemble and chamber music. Duties also include workshops, group teaching and being an instrumental advisor on the orchestra master's programme. In addition, the position involves being pedagogically and artistically involved in subject development. Administrative duties such as conducting entrance exams and working on course syllabuses are also part of the job.

Eligibility criteria

The eligibility criteria for employing teaching staff are set out in Chapter 4, sections 3–4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance and in the University of Gothenburg's own appointment procedures.

To be eligible for employment as a lecturer, the applicant is required to have demonstrated teaching expertise, and to have a degree of at least second-cycle level or have equivalent competence or some other expertise that is of significance with regard to the subject content of the employment and the duties that will be included in the employment.

The following are requirements for the position:

- Demonstrated artistic expertise in the subject area

- Documented experience in teaching at university level/equivalent

Assessment criteria

The following assessment criteria will be applied:

  • Documented artistic expertise as a professional musician and extensive experience in the field
  • Documented pedagogical expertise in teaching and supervision at university level or equivalent
  • Experience of artistic development work in the subject area
  • Experience in networking and collaboration
  • Good ability to cooperate and good communication skills
  • The applicant will have undergone or is expected to undergo training in teaching at university level or will have acquired equivalent knowledge in some other documented way (15 credits).

    We will carry out an overall assessment, and will employ the person who is deemed to be best able to carry out and develop the duties described above. In making the appointment, equal weight will be given to artistic expertise in the subject and to teaching expertise in the subject area. We also attach great importance to cooperation skills, communication skills and personal suitability, as well as good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

    Employment

    Fixed-term employment as per Chapter 4, section 10 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance, for a term of 5 years with the possibility of renewal for a further 5 years.

    Scope: 25% of full time

    Start date: 1 July 2024 or as agreed
