Our vision

With the challenges society faces today, education and research within the field of the arts are more important than ever; fundamentally, one of the strengths of the arts is the creating of perspective and critical tools, as well as meaning and hope. Our Faculty will be pro-active in issues related to the arts, culture and learning, where creativity and innovation are embraced in a wider sense. Locally established and globally orientated, our Faculty will be a place that accommodates the arts, the creating of knowledge, critique, visions, and transformation. The arts, and culture, are for everyone to enjoy – and our Faculty will be a meeting-place for agents of culture, culture institutions, the creative industries, as well as civil society as a whole. To be a house with many ways in – and even more ways out – will be our goal.

HDK-Valand is seeking a lecturer in film practice who will contribute to teaching and supervision in the subject of film focused primarily in the MA program.

Subject area

Film

Subject area description

Filming is to record and convey a sequence of events. Key aspects include observation, portrayal and staging. Students are encouraged to present their own experiences in their surroundings to develop something unique and personal. This is done through practical exercises and through oral and written reflections. These reflections are shared at seminars and through individual studio discussions, where students practice discussing their work. Teaching is based on concepts like judgment, collection, selection, presentation and archives.

The programme develops methods for portrayal, enables new cinematic expressions and explores new opportunities for public screenings. We want to encourage students to take an inquisitive and critical approach to cinematic conventions and to explore and master an arena in which to work.

We actively participate in technological developments and their possibilities. The programme is closely linked the external world outside of academia, participates regularly in discussion of public interest and contributes to changing the role of cinema in society.

When the camera is your tool, curating is important. Accessibility, balanced treatment of a subject and archive management are other issues addressed in the teaching. The film programme is based on artistic practice and professional knowledge.
