| Position Summary | The Teaching and Learning Consultant in the Office of Curriculum and Instructional Support serves a critical role in contributing to the development, design, delivery, facilitation, and evaluation of programs (e.g., workshops, webinars, cohort models), services (e.g., consultations, faculty and student feedback sessions, observations, program mapping, course design), and resources (e.g., print and web- based content) designed to support faculty, academic staff, and graduate teaching assistants in effective, evidence-based teaching and learning strategies, instructional techniques, and curriculum formulation in online and multi-modality. |
| Required Qualifications | Master’s degree in Teaching, Curriculum and Instruction, Higher Education, Education Technology, or a related higher education field. Demonstrated experience developing and conducting impactful face-to-face, blended (hybrid), and online faculty training workshops and/or webinars. Demonstrated experience with emerging learning environments/teaching and learning consulting/Instructional design at the collegiate level that includes working with online and multi-modality instructional formats. Demonstrated experience with the assessment of programs and services for faculty. Ability to clarify client needs and suggest appropriate pedagogical strategies, resources, and materials in a professional and confidential manner. Ability to research, analyze, and propose learning solutions for online and multi-modality instruction by using the latest, evidence based pedagogical strategies. Documented effective use of learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard) and other digital learning-based technologies. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an academic community across disciplines. Ability to project a positive image with strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively prioritize workload by managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines. |
| Preferred Qualifications | Doctorate degree with an emphasis on Teaching, Instructional Design, Curriculum and Instruction, Higher Education, Educational Technology, or a related higher education field. Three years of teaching and learning consulting experience at a college or university that includes working with face-to-face, online, and multi-modality instructional formats. Demonstrated experience conducting impactful teaching and learning workshops in a range of formats including face-to-face, live webinar, and digitally recorded. Demonstrated experience in implementing best practices in curriculum, instruction, and student learning. Documented evidence of effectively using best practices in the implementation of technology learning tools. Demonstrated experience with online course design and delivery. Demonstrated ability to be enterprising, diplomatic, and proactive at solving problems. Working knowledge of media design and production tools (e.g., Adobe Suite). Demonstrated experience with the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) through research, analysis, and proposing learning solutions for face- to-face, online and multi-modality instruction by using the latest, evidence based pedagogical strategies. Sensitivity to the personal and personnel issues related to the improvement of teaching. |
| Duties & Responsibilities | Conducts observations of teaching with faculty in all instructional formats to assist them in implementing pedagogies that are most conducive to student learning. Assists faculty across the disciplines with overall course design or redesign, development and evaluation of instructional materials that are functional, intuitive, informative, and consistent with sound instructional design principles in face-to-face, online, and multi-modality formats. Implements technology/multimedia to enhance instructional course design in all instructional delivery formats. Supports academic departments and units in all disciplines in the exploration and development of innovative teaching and learning strategies and resources in all class formats. When appropriate, collaborates with related departments to plan, develop, and facilitates faculty development workshops, webinars, department-specific programs, communities of practice, and other activities in areas of teaching and learning as well as the use of instructional technology tools. Contributes to various initiatives related to accreditation and continuous improvement (e.g., writing, critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, internationalization, or similar projects). Advances the practice of teaching and learning by integrating formal and informal research findings into future activities. Plans, develops and facilitates faculty development activities appropriate to face-to-face, hybrid (blended), and online formats. Performs other duties as assigned. |
