The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions in which both research and teaching are conducted. The department is involved in advanced research in both basic and applied research. The Division of Biomolecular and Cellular Medicine focuses on the use of modified biomolecules, cells and cell products as novel therapeutic agents and the identification and study of suitable biomolecular and cellular targets for therapy and diagnosis. Currently, Assistant Professor Joel Nordin's research group is looking for a clinical assistant for a fixed-term employment.
Your mission
We are seeking a motivated individual to join Joel Nordin’s research group as a clinical assistant, working on the development and optimization of CAR T-cell products. The CAR T cells will be produced ex vivo using viral, and non-viral, CRISPR-based knock-in methods. The overarching goal is to translate these CAR T cells into a clinical trial as rapidly as possible, thereby making a direct impact on patients who currently lack access to CAR T-cell therapy. The role primarily involves hands-on laboratory work, conducted in collaboration with group leaders at the Department of Biomolecular and Cellular Medicine (BCM).
Your profile
To be employed as a clinical assistant, you must hold a degree in medicine or dentistry or have been admitted to a doctoral program in medicine or odontology. The applicant should have a solid background in cellular biology.
The position requires practical experience in the following areas:
- Lentivirus production
- Mammalian cell culture of adherent and suspension cell lines
- Human primary T cell isolation and activation
- Working with primary NK cells
- Ligation and In Fusion cloning – Design and testing of CAR constructs
- Gene editing of mammalian cells
- Flow cytometry experience
- Co-culture and killing assays
It is meritorious that the applicant has experience in the field of extracellular vesicles and cell-based immunotherapies.
Excellent proficiency in both spoken and written English is important. We are looking for an energetic and passionate person who fits in and actively contributes to our team.
What do we offer?
Our research efforts in the Nordin lab focus on novel cell- and gene-therapy. Despite the unprecedented knowledge of diseases and their mechanisms due to advances in biomedical sciences; many promising therapeutic approaches are still clinically unavailable. The Nordin group develops innovative gene therapies for advanced applications. We aim to deliver macromolecules, such as CRISPR, siRNA, mRNA, etc., to cells in vivo as well as performing translational research and take novel nanoparticle systems and cell therapies into clinical testing, preferably by utilizing hospital-based production of the cell therapies.
