And would you like to create maximum impact with biotech research results from the UG and UMCG?

Then we are looking for you!

Business Generator Groningen is looking for a Business Developer Biotech Booster.

As a Business Developer Biotech Booster, you and your fellow business developers will look for marketable biotechnological research within the UG and UMCG. You will support researchers with their application for the Biotech Booster programme, offer support to approved projects, and you will be one of the points of contact of Biotech Booster in our region. Your focus area will be the red biotechnology, i.e. medical biotechnology.

About Biotech Booster Biotech Booster is a national programme that supports the commercialization of biotechnology findings in the Netherlands. It is an excellent opportunity for scientists and entrepreneurs in the biotech sector to valorize their ideas and grow a successful business. Funded by the National Growth Fund (het Nationaal Groeifonds), the Biotech Booster programme offers financial support, mentorship, and networking opportunities to guide founders from the idea stage to the development of an investable/commercial proposition. As a Business Developer Biotech Booster you contribute to the previous mentioned activities and are part of the national Biotech Booster team. This includes visiting and supporting projects from other knowledge institutes on a regular basis as well. The Biotech Booster office is located in Utrecht. Therefore, you will be working in Utrecht for at least one day a week.

What you will be doing

  • You will scout promising innovative early-stage biotechnological projects.
  • You will assess applications for acceptance to the programme.
  • You will support researchers with preparing their applications.
  • You will offer tailored support to current, i.e. accepted, projects. For example, you will offer support with the processing of the business case and monitor the progress within the project.
  • You will maintain contact with both your fellow business developers in the region and the national Biotech Booster network.
  • You will give feedback on proposals from other Biotech Booster partners, both within and outside our region, and you will assess these together with the other business developers from your theme cluster.

    • About Business Generator Groningen At Business Generator Groningen, we are driven by the belief that researchers, through their scientific expertise, can make valuable contributions to advancements in healthcare, sustainability, energy, and digitalization. Therefore, we support researchers from the UG and UMCG in bringing their research results to market. We achieve this by assessing the commercial potential of findings, providing help in protecting their intellectual property, connecting researchers with potential business partners, drafting licensing agreements, providing support in raising a start-up, and facilitating access to funding.

    Business Generator Groningen works in close collaboration with the UMCG Innovation Center. Together we support UMCG/(and UG) researchers in the best possible way. Working as a Business Developer Biotech Booster therefore includes working closely together with business developers of the UMCG Innovation Center.

    Qualifications

    Candidates

  • Have a university level of working and thinking in the field of life science / biotechnology.
  • Have a good command of both Dutch and English.
  • Have an affinity with biotechnology, and red biotechnology in particular, and valorization.
  • Have experience with developing innovations through knowledge, an entrepreneurial mindset, and an extensive network.
  • Have a proactive attitude towards researchers and know the right way to approach them.
  • Are excellent at spotting promising innovative biotechnological findings and have the drive to successfully bring these to market and society.
  • Have strong communication skills.
  • Are used to working on a project basis.
  • Preferably have experience with IP.
  • Will be one of the Biotech Booster points of contact for our region and will maintain contact with various external stakeholders.

    In addition, we offer

  • An appointment of 0,8-1,0 FTE until 31 December 2025 with the possibility of extension provided that the Biotech Booster programme is continued. The starting date is as soon as possible.
  • A gross monthly salary between € 4,818 and € 6,594 (scale 11 CAO-UMC).
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
