About Ryerson University

Established post World War II in 1948, The Ryerson Institute of Technology was a result of demand for skilled tradespeople in Ontario, Canada. They had 250 enrolled students in the first year with courses in photography, costume design, and architecture. The title 'polytechnic' was given to Ryerson for their varied program options in 1963. After the Lake Devo construction, the campus grew with the number of enrolled students reaching up to 10,000. With excellent academics and research in 1993, Ryerson Polytechnic received the university rank. The university reached the current title 'Ryerson University' in 2002.

The Ryerson University is on the historical site that housed the first teacher's college called the Toronto Normal School. Ryerson's located in the heart of Toronto. Here, the students are given this opportunity to connect with world leaders in government, business, culture, and healthcare at the campus' doorstep. Also, the campus houses the Ted Rogers School of Management, Faculty of Communication & Design, Faculty of Community Services, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science, Faculty of Science, The Chang School of Continuing Education and Digital Media Zone (DMZ).

Ryerson is home to 45,000 undergraduate and graduate students, representing over 146 countries. This university has varied programs with 62 undergraduate programs and 49 specialized minor programs. The programs are available for possible career paths in Arts, Communication and Design, Community Services, Engineering, and Architectural Science, Science, and Business. There are specialized programs for international students with the Ryerson ESL Foundation Program. These programs are for students whose scores do not meet the requirement for English proficiency.
