Associate Professor Sara Khalid. Over 55,000 brick kilns are thought to be in this region , many of which are unregulated, small-scale industries. An alternative approach is to identify the distinct shape of brick kilns from aerial images captured by satellites. The model provides a rapid, accurate and highly scalable tool to automatically detect and map brick kilns across this vast region. ‘This project really aligns with my motivation to see artificial intelligence applied responsibly to solve both human and planetary health problems’ Associate Professor Khalid concluded.
