About the Role

Reporting to the Youth Programming Manager, the Youth Programming Coordinator supports all aspects of youth programming initiatives at Mount Royal University (MRU). This includes planning and monitoring program registration, budget, marketing and promotions, scheduling, risk mitigation, program evaluation and reporting, curriculum development, and supervising seasonal staff. New camp and program development, including formal and informal needs assessment, is also required. The Youth Programming Coordinator must have flexible hours for the months of July and August (the hours of work are between 7:00am – 6:00pm).

This is a full-time on-campus, in-person position requiring a police information check with vulnerable sector search and Standard First Aid with CPR Level C.

  • Reserve space both on- and off-campus to ensure MRU Camps has the required space to meet program delivery outcomes.
  • Work with internal administrative support services as required to ensure effective and efficient program, and activity support.
  • Assist in database input and rollover requirements.
  • Assist in developing a revenue generating budget and appropriate camp fee structure for programs in consultations with the Youth Programming Manager.
  • Assist in departmental records management.
  • Assess the feasibility and community need for new camp offerings through market research in conjunction with the Youth Programming Manager, Director of Business and Retail Services, and advisory committees where applicable.
  • Source 3rd party partners both internally and externally and make recommendations to help support program delivery.
  • Support the creation of detailed lesson plans to ensure desired outcomes are met.
  • Assess all course offerings on an annual basis to determine if learning outcomes were met, and make recommendations if the program should be offered in future years.
  • Support the Youth Programming Manager on recruiting, interviewing, selecting, training, and assessing seasonal staff.
  • Supervise and verify seasonal contract preparation and hiring and payroll packages.
  • Observe and evaluate seasonal staff, summarize information, and provide feedback to the Youth Programming Manager.
  • Regularly monitor all programs to ensure the curriculum is being delivered as intended.
  • Facilitate and conduct program audits and evaluations as directed.
  • Verify staff prerequisites for program implementation in academic and specialty programs.
  • Maintain accurate camp Information and statistics as required for partner agencies, sponsors, and associations.
  • Ensure camp materials are duplicated and distributed and that copyright laws are followed.
  • Compile information pertaining to surveys and external market research as directed.
  • Other administrative reports as directed.
  • Write internal control reports and attest what the program team delivered, key learnings, challenges, and highlight improvements and make recommendations needed for future programming.
  • Assess program performance and provide an evaluation of the program in terms of quality of work.
  • Arrange for external review of programs when necessary.
  • Perform risk assessments when necessary.
  • Conduct program audits during peak seasons to assess areas to strengthen programs and mitigate risks.
  • Review and revise training modules pertaining to risk and health & safety on an ongoing basis and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Reevaluate the existing program plan effectiveness in identifying risk and make recommendations on mitigating risks as needed.
  • Report on program/department information to team members on a regular basis as directed.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications unit in developing and implementation of marketing strategies and specific program/camp promotion (may include brochures, newspaper ads, web page development, direct marketing materials).
  • Respond to potential customer, staff, and community partner (internal/external) inquiries.
  • Assist and/or organize events such as trade shows, and career expos.
  • Apply for relevant grants and work collaboratively with the Foundation to coordinate fundraising and sponsor opportunities, and complete grant applications in conjunction with the Youth Programming Manager.

  • Qualifications
  • Two-year diploma from a university or equivalent
  • Experience combined with post-secondary education may be considered
  • Extensive expereince, knowledge and understanding of children and youth programs and delivery is an asset
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Work process, database and spreadsheet skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, independently, and as an effective team player
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Interest/education in the program area coordinated is an asset
  • Problem solving and basic budgeting skills
  • Understanding and experience in inclusive programming is an asset

    Salary: $60,571 - $76,640 per annum (Subject to retroactive increase based on Gain Sharing Conditions as per the Government of Alberta)
