Summary

Midwestern University is in search of a skilled Web Support Specialist to join its dynamic Communications team. The Web Support Specialist reports directly to Web Content Manager and is responsible for monitoring and maintaining MWU's web presence, ensuring websites are up to date, accessible, and comply with MWU brand and style guidelines. The Web Support Specialist will use their technical skills to build webpages, manage digital assets, and serve as the point of contact for CMS users.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Website Maintenance:

  • Build webpages and manage digital assets (images, videos, documents).
  • Support content updates on multiple websites.
  • On-call support to content publishing.
  • Ensure content contributions and media usage are consistent with branding and style guide.
  • Serve as a point of contact for CMS users and help with user error or resolve technical issues.
  • Support vendor updates to the system.
  • Special Project: Support content migration, functional QA testing, and related implementation needs for current website redesign and deployment.
  • End User Training:

  • Responsible for setting up, assigning appropriate permissions, and maintaining user accounts.
  • Provide both onboarding and ongoing training for end users to be successful in the CMS (one-on-one training and scheduled monthly or quarterly group training). Manage Web Community meetings and communications.
  • Educate users on web accessibility standards and the importance of following these guidelines in their content creation (e.g. use of headers, including image alt tags, etc.) working towards Section 508 compliance.
  • Create training guides (defined by clarity and simplicity) and supporting materials (e.g. videos).
  • Provide training for end users to be successful in the catalog software.
  • Product Maintenance:

  • Serve as an expert in assigned digital products.
  • Support product maintenance of these digital products.
  • Support product lifecycle and feature evolutions.
  • Annual Deliverables:

  • Academic course catalogs.
  • Provide updated training guides and materials for assigned products.

    Education and/or Experience

    Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Design or related field with 2-4 years of web support, web design/development or related experience required. Must have the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a variety of constituents. Proven ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple priorities and successfully meet deadlines. Must be highly organized.

    Computer Skills

    Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook), required. Experience working with content management systems; Drupal preferred.

    Language Skills

    Intermediate skills: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    Reasoning Ability

    Intermediate skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Mathematical Ability

    Basic skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
