Based in the University's External Relations Directorate, the Communications team brings together specialists in digital communications, media relations, internal communications, research communications, events and public engagement. Our mission is to advance institutional profile and reputation, and help build a strong University community who feel informed, supported and connected.

It's an exciting time to join the team as we continue to roll out our updated brand, implement a significant website redesign and deliver high-impact projects in support of student recruitment objectives.

    Role

The University's website is used by thousands of visitors every day and has many millions of page views per year. It is a vitally important and highly visible part of our communications infrastructure, in particular being the main shop window through which prospective students discover the University. This role will be part of a small team driving forward the design and functionality of the site to maximise our student recruitment outcomes and for the benefit of all its users.

    Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing website components and layouts for our Digital Pattern Library to meet student recruitment and other business and user needs, and working with front-end developers to implement those designs in code and the University's content management system (CMS)
  • Working with student recruitment marketing and other business areas on implementation of web projects in the CMS to maximise lead generation, conversion and quality of user experience for prospective students and other audiences
  • Collaborating on and interpreting user research to inform design decisions and implementation plans for website projects for student recruitment and other audiences
  • Providing user experience design input as part of collaborative work with colleagues to produce user journey maps, wireframes, mockups, sitemaps and other design documentation in support of web projects
  • Collaborating with system owners to help implement the University's visual identity and maximise usability of those systems
  • Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
  • Ability to create attractive and usable designs for the web, from individual components to full pages and user journeys around a site
  • Knowledge of user experience design and accessibility best practices
  • Experience using web content management systems (CMS)
  • Skilled in the use of software for website design such as Adobe XD or Figma
  • Sufficient understanding of the principles of HTML, CSS and JavaScript to be able to work effectively with front-end developers as they implement designs in code and in the CMS
  • Ability to understand an organisational brand and apply it across digital channels
  • Experience working with design systems used to manage the templates and components that underpin large and complex websites
  • Experience of creating core user experience design deliverables such as wireframes, prototypes and journey maps
  • Interview date: To be confirmed
