  • About This Opportunity

    We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Veterinary Technologist or Nurse to work within our back of house team. In this role, you will primarily be based in our surgical suites, where you will play a crucial part in ensuring high-quality nursing and technical services within the clinic. You will prep patients for surgery, assist the anaesthesia department with induction, and recovery of patients, and support our surgeons in theatre. Additionally, you will manage and maintain our sterile stores, ensuring all surgical instruments and supplies are properly sterilized and readily available. An important aspect of this role is actively participating in the teaching and mentorship of Undergraduate Veterinary students and Veterinary Technology students, demonstrating best practices, guiding them through hands-on tasks, and providing feedback to support their learning and development. This position offers a dynamic and engaging work environment where you will be an integral part of our hospital team, contributing to the clinic's success and the development of future veterinary professionals.     Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide skilled and professional support to veterinary staff, including vet specialists.

  • Assess, monitor, treat, and maintain husbandry standards for ICU, isolation, and hospital patients.

  • Confidently liaise with veterinarians, specialists, and support staff about patient care.

  • Properly care for, clean, and maintain specialized instrumentation and equipment.

  • Assist with radiography, CT, Scintigraphy, and MRI procedures.

  • Perform diagnostic clinical pathology techniques competently.

  • Provide administrative support to clinic staff as needed.

  • Assist with reception duties efficiently and effectively.

  • Adhere to and review SOPs for nursing and contribute to SOP review.

  • Provide clinical training support for veterinary students and manage pharmacy inventory using practice management software.

  • This is a full-time (100%), continuing position.

    At HEW level 4, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $71,640.06 - $75,957.51, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $83,818.87 - $88,870.29 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

    About You
  • Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing and/or Bachelor of Applied Science (Veterinary Technology) and/or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology plus at least 2 years nursing experience.

  • Or equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver and maintain high standards of professional veterinary nursing in all areas of nursing.

  • High level organisational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly with the use of initiative and autonomy.

  • Good written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to use these skills in managing professional & operational relationships with colleagues, clients and students.

  • Knowledge of ethical requirements, principles and practices relevant to all areas of veterinary nursing.

  • Knowledge and application of relevant policies and procedures applicable to employment, including workplace health and safety, employment equity and anti-discrimination.

  • An effective team player who maintains effective working relationships in a team. Environment.

  • Enthusiasm, initiative and self-motivation.

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and excellence in the field of veterinary nursing.

  • Interest in the clinical teaching of veterinary and veterinary technology professionals in training.

  • Willingness to participate in other professional service activities e.g. VNCA, community organisations, RSPCA, PetPEP (AVA).

  • Possess or be able to apply for a radiation license.

  • In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:
