| Position Summary | Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM), Department of Surgery, is recruiting a fellowship-trained or equivalently experienced academic urologist specializing in urologic oncology to join our faculty. The successful candidate will practice primarily at Grady Memorial Hospital, one of the largest public hospitals in the Southeast and a Level I trauma center serving a diverse patient population across metropolitan Atlanta.
This position is intentionally designed for a surgeon-scholar who sees the operating room and the community as connected domains of practice. Georgia carries one of the highest prostate cancer mortality burdens in the nation, and Black men in our service area die of prostate cancer at rates substantially exceeding the national average. We seek a physician who brings surgical excellence in urologic oncology and a demonstrated commitment to reaching patients before they present with advanced disease. Appointment rank as Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor will be commensurate with the candidate’s academic accomplishments, scholarly productivity, and record of teaching and service. Clinical Care: • Provide comprehensive urologic care at Grady Memorial Hospital, with emphasis on the surgical and multidisciplinary management of prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular, and upper tract urothelial malignancies.• Perform open, laparoscopic, and robotic-assisted oncologic procedures consistent with training and credentialing.• Participate actively in the multidisciplinary genitourinary tumor board and contribute to coordinated care pathways spanning urology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, and radiology.• Share in the Division’s inpatient consultation, operative, and call responsibilities.• Contribute to quality, safety, and access initiatives, including efforts to reduce time from abnormal screening result to definitive diagnosis and treatment. Education: • Teach and supervise medical students, general surgery residents, and urology trainees and fellows rotating through Grady.• Serve as a clinical mentor and career advisor to students and residents, with particular attention to trainees pursuing surgical subspecialty careers.• Contribute to curriculum development in urologic disease, cancer screening, and health equity content within the Department of Surgery.• Participate in departmental conferences, morbidity and mortality review, and skills instruction. Scholarship: • Maintain an active scholarly agenda in urologic oncology. Areas of particular departmental interest include cancer disparities, screening and early detection, health services and implementation science, biomarker and translational research, and clinical trials.• Enroll patients in therapeutic and non-therapeutic clinical trials and support expansion of trial access at Grady.• Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at national meetings.• Candidates at the Associate and Full Professor levels are expected to demonstrate an established scholarly trajectory and, where applicable, extramural funding or a credible plan to obtain it. Community Engagement: • Design, lead, or substantively contribute to community-based programming addressing urologic cancer awareness, screening, and navigation.• Partner with faith-based organizations, barbershops, fraternal and civic organizations, community health centers, and public health agencies across metropolitan Atlanta.• Serve as a visible clinical voice in community and media settings on men’s health and cancer prevention.• Contribute to the pipeline mission through outreach to students considering careers in medicine and the health sciences. Service: • Participate in departmental, institutional, and health system committees.• Contribute to national specialty society, board, or professional organization service consistent with rank. What We Offer:• Competitive salary and incentive structure aligned with the MSM Faculty Compensation Plan and benchmarked to national academic norms.• Comprehensive benefits, including health, dental, vision, retirement contribution, malpractice coverage, and CME support.• Protected time for scholarship and community-engaged work, negotiated at the time of offer.• Access to institutional research infrastructure, including the MSM research enterprise, biostatistical support, and the clinical trials office.• Collaboration across a comprehensive academic surgical department and a multidisciplinary oncology program.• A faculty community and patient population that make health equity work concrete rather than theoretical.• Relocation assistance and, where applicable, support for visa sponsorship. |
| Minimum Qualifications | • MD, DO, or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.• Completion of an ACGME-accredited urology residency.• Board-certified or board-eligible by the American Board of Urology.• Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Georgia and for medical staff appointment and clinical privileges at Grady Memorial Hospital.• Significant clinical experience in urologic oncology, evidenced by fellowship training in urologic oncology or a substantial documented operative and clinical practice concentrated in genitourinary malignancy.• Demonstrated track record in community engagement, evidenced by sustained work such as community-based screening or education programs, community-engaged or participatory research, formal partnerships with community organizations, or comparable documented activity. Candidates should be prepared to describe specific programs, their role in them, the populations served, and outcomes achieved.• Record of teaching and mentorship appropriate to the rank sought.• Scholarly productivity appropriate to the rank sought. |
| Preferred Qualifications | • Robotic surgery proficiency with an established case volume.• Experience practicing in a safety-net, public hospital, or federally qualified health center setting.• Experience as a clinical trial investigator.• Experience mentoring trainees from backgrounds underrepresented in medicine. |
