University Tennis Coordinator - UECS Essex Sport

Job description

Department

Sport is an important and integral part of what the University of Essex offers.  Essex Sport delivers a wide range of opportunities for both our University community of staff and students, and the wider community from the local and regional area to access facilities and sport and fitness activities in the pursuit of making people happier and healthier and positively changing lives.

Tennis is one of our focus sports, where we have an emerging national reputation for competitive excellence.  Alongside competition outcomes, tennis is also an important sport for us in supporting the development of community and belonging, whilst also supporting students in gaining employability skills through a highly active and popular student tennis club and a range of recreational tennis activities.

With the support of the LTA, we now have an exciting opportunity for a University Tennis Coordinator to join our programme, creating opportunities for students to take part in recreational and competitive tennis, assisting the Tennis Performance Coach with coaching for our tennis scholarship students, and leading coaching for the student tennis club and BUCS teams.

Duties of the Role

The University Tennis Coordinator is responsible for working with the sports leadership team and Head Coach to deliver a tennis offer that supports development, performance and workforce opportunities for the student members. This role will involve providing high-quality group coaching lessons and training sessions for both recreational and performance players; organising and delivering events and competitions to the student members; developing opportunities to expand and support a student workforce in gaining valuable professional experiences through tennis, and it will involve working closely with key groups such as the student committee and LTA to provide the best possible offer for the members of the student tennis club.

Skills and qualifications required

  • LTA Level 2 Coaching Qualification
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic project management skills
  •  Understanding of basic principles of data collection, analysis and presentation

Due to the nature of this role an Enhanced DBS check will be required.

At the University of Essex, internationalism and diversity is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries, faiths and backgrounds, where you can find the world in one place.

To support this commitment we have our Global Forum, a staff-led network that promotes and celebrates the rich cultural diversity among Essex staff, and our Colchester campus based Faith Centre, which hosts regular services, meetings and events organised by our chaplains and faith representatives.

Please see the attached job pack, which contains a full job description and person specification which outlines the full duties, skills, qualifications and experience needed for this role plus more information relating to the post. We recommend you read this information carefully before making an application.  Applications should be made on-line, but if you would like advice or help in making an application, or need information in a different format, please email [email protected]
