An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Buckinghamshire New University working within the Facilities and Services Directorate as a University Porter.

You will take responsibility for the daily set up and removal of teaching room furniture and sports bookings and deliver a smooth service and operation to all customers at the University.

Candidates will have a good general education and excellent organisational skills.

You need to be able to work under pressure and to deadlines and have a reasonable level of fitness as aspects of the job requires manual handling.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Job Title: University Porter

    Faculty/Directorate: Facilities and Services

    Grade: £24,044 - £25,148

    Responsible to: Duty Manager

    Job Purpose:

    To be part of the portering/postal team at the University and take responsibility for the daily set up and removal of teaching room furniture and sports bookings. To deliver a smooth service and operation to all customers at the University.

    Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:

  • To provide employees/students/visitors/commercial customers a first-class customer experience when using the University.
  • General portering duties including receipt, transportation, storage of deliveries and goods (including furniture removals) as directed.
  • To act as one of the post team with the delivery of large postal items and letters daily including inputting data into the online business account
  • To provide, as directed, an effective room support service including daily resetting of room layouts.
  • To assist with the efficient operation and support of all internal and external events activities taking place during shifts, including the set up and clear down of all facilities.
  • Weekly room monitoring & auditing in particular checking for ‘Brand Standards'
  • To provide an ad-hoc waste removal service for all hazardous, WEEE and confidential waste
  • To assist with office moves as directed by the duty management team.
  • To assist in the movement of furniture/sports equipment for events room/hall layouts.
  • To be flexible and assist with set ups and other duties at Uxbridge/Aylesbury campuses as agreed with the duty management team.
  • Comply with relevant legislative and other requirements (e.g., the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; UKVI; and Equality and Diversity) in all working practices
  • Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required

  • To work on a 5/7 rota and be flexible when required for special events.
  • Extended hours are to follow a shift pattern normally covering the hours 8.00 – 21.00 during weekdays but may be extended beyond this to suit business needs.
