  • Position Summary:

    Adjunct faculty position for the School of Allied Health. The College of Health (COH), one of seven UAA schools and colleges, is a major center for development and delivery of professional, career and technical, community, and continuing education programs. In keeping with the mission of the University of Alaska, the COH has a commitment to innovation and flexibility ensuring high quality education and training available to all who have the ability and interest to pursue an education or profession. The School of Allied Health within the College of Health offers Occupational Endorsement Certificates, Undergraduate Certificates, Associate of Applied Science degrees, Bachelor's and Master's degrees.

    Duties:

    100Prepare lesson plans. Instruct students on area of expertise. Hold office hours, or be available for contact with students. Adjuncts will be assigned to teach one of the Allied Health courses. Adjunct positions are on a semester- by-semester contract basis. Successful acceptance into the adjunct pool does not guarantee an offer of a contract.Essential

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of accepted instruction methods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Public speaking skills.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Candidates will be evaluated on a) the suitability of their academic preparation, b) past teaching experience, c) expertise and/or clinical experience relevant to the effective teaching of their specific field and d) the potential for providing high quality instruction to a diverse undergraduate student population. Must possess interpersonal skills to deal effectively and courteously with students, staff, faculty, administration, and the general public.

    Distance delivery may play an important part of the UAA Program; the applicant must have the ability to provide classroom instruction and/or clinical teaching in courses pertinent to health fields in traditional and/or distance- delivery environments. Instructional design support is available. Experience in curriculum development, web-based course design and delivery, technology use in the classroom, as well as didactic classroom instruction is preferred. Experience in clinical education of students and clinical sites, student evaluation, advising and counseling in professional discipline are desired.

    Experience leading or working in a diversified workforce in a multi-cultural setting.

    Preferred Experience & Education:

    Prior teaching experience in the discipline Significant clinical experience in the health-related field

    Required Experience & Education:

    Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred. Licensure or certification in the health-related field may be required.

    Salary Information:

    Salary is based on the number of previous semesters teaching experience within the University of Alaska.
