We are seeking to appoint a Research Technician in the Centre for Novel Agricultural Products in the Department of Biology, University of York, to work on an industrially funded Research and Development programme headed by Professor Ian Graham that is aimed at molecular breeding and metabolic engineering of a pharmaceutical crop plant.
This position represents an excellent opportunity to work on a strategically relevant research programme that relies on state-of-the-art molecular biology technologies. You should be self-motivated and a team worker with attention to detail, together with sound knowledge of and experience in molecular biology techniques. Experience in plant research work is also desirable.
RoleYou will provide technical expertise and scientific support to the ongoing research, working in a team to achieve the research programme's goals using a broad range of molecular biology methods and procedures. These include sampling and processing of plant material for various downstream applications, DNA and RNA extractions, genotyping techniques, transient and stable plant transformation and plant tissue culture work, as well as implementation of new methods and techniques, where applicable. Your responsibilities will also include monitoring the growth of experimental plants and carrying out genetic crosses.
The research programme is heavily dependent on accurate recording and tracking of information on thousands of plants and associated samples. You will maintain records and ensure that all data and records are correctly uploaded into our Laboratory Information Management System. You will also assist in the general running of the Graham lab.
