The School of Sport Science & Physical Activity (SSPA) is located within the Faculty of Education & Sport on the Bedford Campus and has an unbroken tradition in Physical Education & Sport provision dating back to 1903. Applications are invited for the position of Technician in Sport, Rehabilitation& Exercise Science.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic school that delivers ten undergraduate and five taught postgraduate courses. The school has a thriving postgraduate research community and works closely with the Institute of Sport & Physical Activity Research.

Based in the excellently equipped, purpose built, multimillion pound, state of the art, Sports & Exercise Science Laboratories and Rehabilitation clinics at the University of Bedfordshire, Bedford Campus, which boasts the following purpose built facilities:

Six BASES accredited, temperature controlled sport and exercise science laboratories

Sport rehabilitation clinic

An environmental chamber

A nutrition research kitchen

Two postgraduate research physiology laboratories

We also recently opened the following new facilities:

Gym

Strength & conditioning suite

Community Exercise Clinic

Astroturf pitch

Successful applicants should have a degree in sports & exercise science or sports rehabilitation and recent experience of providing technical support in a Sport & Exercise Science laboratory or sports rehabilitation clinic within a Higher Education environment. It would also be essential that the person is experienced in collecting finger prick and/or venous blood samples or has a willingness to undertake training to collect blood on a regular basis.

The appointee will support the running of the Sport & Exercise Science Laboratories and Sport Rehabilitation clinics, prepare and assist with practical lessons, research and consultancy for the School's students and academic staff. Further duties will include assisting with a wide variety of activities including, working with blood, calibration and maintenance of equipment and laboratories, the movement, storage, inventory checks and set up of equipment throughout the laboratories and clinics.

Additionally the successful applicant should have:

An appreciation and experience of Health and Safety issues, including experience of Risk and COSHH assessments.

Excellent organisational, written and oral communication skills and the ability to deal with a wide range of people, whist meeting tight deadlines.
