Technical Officer in the Safety Office (Ref.: 524690) (to commence in April 2024, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal)

Applicants should have a Diploma or above in Science/Engineering or a related discipline, with at least 2 years' work experience in laboratories, workshops or general workplaces; OR 5 passes in HKCEE including English (min. Grade C if Syllabus A/Level 2 from 2007), Chinese (Level 2 from 2007) and Mathematics, or min. Level 2 or equivalent in 5 subjects in HKDSEE including Physics, English Language, Chinese Language and Mathematics, with 5 years' relevant experience. Preference will be given to those who are registered as a Radiation Worker, with work experience in radiation monitoring; low activity level radioactive waste transportation, treatment and management; and radiation emergency response in a tertiary institute setting. However, candidates with suitable qualifications and experience and the potential to be trained in these areas may also be considered. They should also have a good command of spoken and written English and Chinese; good communication and interpersonal skills; and the ability to work independently in a variety of settings. Possession of a Light Goods Vehicle driving licence (vehicle classes 1, 2/ 2a) is required.

The appointee will perform calibration of monitoring equipment, help to monitor the personal radiation exposure for radiation workers/users in the University; take samples to check for any radiation contamination in radioactive controlled areas in the University; collect and transport waste from user departments to central storage using a Radiation Board approved goods van; maintain a precise inventory record for waste; manage treatment and disposal of different types of low activity level radioactive waste according to the Radiation Board approval; assist in the response to an emergency situation out of hours if required; and perform other duties related to radiation safety as assigned.
