Teaching Fellow in Sociology

£34,980 rising annually to £38,205 Full Time, Fixed Term - Academic

This is an exciting opportunity to come and work with the Sociology Team in the School of Law & Social Sciences at Oxford Brookes University.

We are looking for a full-time Teaching Fellow for a period of 12 months to deliver our existing undergraduate programme. The post holder will teach Sociology at undergraduate level, including modules on gender (preferably with a focus on health and illness), race and ethnicity.

You will be responsible for:

● Leading and teaching on core and specialist Sociology modules

● Teaching students using appropriate instruction methods, setting and assessing students' work, and providing lecturing and seminar support on other modules in Sociology (as appropriate)

● Supervising and assessing undergraduate students' dissertations

● Contributing to curriculum development including planning, evaluation and updating of courses and course materials

● Caring for the pastoral needs of students including counselling, welfare and guidance.

You should have:

● A PhD in Sociology or a closely related discipline or be near completion

● Experience of teaching or demonstrable potential to teach Sociology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels

● Experience of, or demonstrable ability to, supervise undergraduate dissertations and lead modules

● A commitment to the delivery of an excellent student experience, placing our students at the heart of all that you do

● The ability to work collegially in a team and independently

● Good communication and interpersonal skills.
