Position description

The Center for Advancing Diversity in Engineering (CADE) is hiring doctoral students who have advanced to candidacy to teach sections of our SPARK 10: Inclusive Innovation seminar in Fall 2023. Doctoral candidates from all disciplines are eligible to be a CADE Teaching Fellow because the SPARK 10: Inclusive Innovation seminar engages students in community-focused, collaborative student learning experiences. CADE has developed all course materials and will train instructors on this pedagogy, so you will have minimal course preparation and be actively mentored on teaching throughout the semester. As a CADE Teaching Fellow, you will receive salary, tuition, and benefits proportional to your appointment FTE. If you teach one SPARK 10 section, you will be appointed at 0.25 FTE to work 10 hours per week. If you teach two SPARK 10 sections, you will be appointed at 0.50 FTE to work 20 hours per week. As a SPARK 10 instructor, you are expected each week to convene class for 100 minutes, hold office hours and guide/grade student work, and attend a one-hour informal meetup with other teaching fellows and faculty to discuss course pedagogy and management.

Under supervision of a faculty member, the Teaching Fellow will be responsible for leading instruction of a course. Additional duties may include grading, leading discussion sections when appropriate and holding office hours. Additional information on the title is available at https: // www. ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/files/apm/apm-410.pdf

All Covered Individuals under the policy must provide proof of Full Vaccination or, if applicable, submit a request for Exception (based on Medical Exemption, Disability, and/or Religious Objection) or Deferral (based on pregnancy) no later than the applicable deadline. The applicable deadline for student employees is the deadline for students. For students starting or returning to campus after Fall 2021, the deadline is the first date of instruction for the term when they first enroll. (Capitalized terms in this paragraph are defined in the policy.)
