Vacancy Overview

One-year, full-time, Fixed-Term Contract.

The Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies seeks to appoint a one-year full-time Teaching Fellow to start by mid-September 2023 ideally or by 9 October 2023 at the latest. You will possess experience in teaching in Higher Education and have a background in digital culture, digital media studies and/or social studies of technology appropriate for research-led teaching. You should have completed a PhD in a field related to the above, or have your viva scheduled.

You will contribute to our MA Digital Media and Culture programme by teaching on some of our core and option modules. These include: - Approaches to the Digital. - Digital Objects, Digital Methods. - User Interface Cultures. - Media Activism.

You will deliver lectures, workshops, seminars and tutorials, and undertake module planning, curriculum development, marking of work and provision of feedback. You will also be available for office hours, monitor student attendance, and participate in moderation and academic integrity processes in accordance with the Centre's quality assurance practices.

Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

To undertake teaching, administrative and other activities supporting the work of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies (CIM).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching

1. To contribute to teaching on one or more of the Centre's existing Masters modules, including dissertation supervision.

2. To undertake module planning, curriculum development, essay tutorials, the marking of work, provide student feedback, be available for office hours, and monitor student attendance in accordance with the Centre's quality assurance practices.

3. To contribute to research activities in the Centre, including participating in seminars, workshops and conferences.

Administration and Other Activities

1. To undertake such specific departmental roles and management functions as may reasonably be required by the Centre Director, including attendance at Centre meetings and participation in other committees and working groups within the Centre, the Faculty and the University.

2. To provide, as appropriate, pastoral support and student guidance during the academic year.

3. To engage in continuous professional development, including participation in relevant professional activities.

4. To participate in relevant professional activities and undertake external commitments, which reflect well on, and enhance the reputation of the Centre, Faculty and University.

Person Specification

The Person Specification focuses on the knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications required to undertake the role effectively. This is measured by (a) Application Form, (b) Test/Exercise, (c) Interview, (d) Presentation.

Essential Criteria 1

PhD or equivalent in relevant field (digital culture, digital media studies, social studies of technology). You should have either a PhD in hand or your viva scheduled. (a)

The mission of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies (CIM) is to investigate how methods and methodical practices drive interdisciplinary research and how interdisciplinary research drives methodological innovation.
