Teaching Associate in Physical Geography

The Department of Geography wishes to appoint a Teaching Associate in Physical Geography. The post is for a fixed term of 3.5 years, starting from 1 April 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter, to provide cover for a colleague undertaking a research fellowship.

We are seeking a physical geographer, broadly defined, who can contribute to teaching and examining in the fields of biogeography, ecology and/or paleoecology, and quantitative skills.

The successful candidate would be expected to contribute to introductory physical geography courses (e.g. first year Life on Earth and/or Environmental Change in the Quaternary) and develop more specialist material, including lectures, practicals and fieldtrips for advanced undergraduate papers (e.g. Biogeography and/or Quaternary Climates and Environments) and our Masters in Holocene Climates. In addition, they would assist with research skills and methods training, undergraduate and Masters dissertation supervision and examining, and contribute to residential and non-residential field courses.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in physical geography or a cognate subject. They will possess evidence of relevant teaching experience, in physical geography or a related subject, and demonstrate close familiarity with the relevant fields of academic research.
