About the role

Description

The Department of Nutritional Sciences in the College of Natural Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for two tenure-track or tenured faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. We seek outstanding scientists whose research will complement and expand departmental strengths in molecular and mechanistic nutrition, clinical and translational nutrition, nutrition interventions, and the role of nutrition in chronic disease prevention and management.

Successful candidates will be expected to establish or maintain an innovative, externally funded research program; contribute to interdisciplinary and collaborative research within the Department of Nutritional Sciences and across UT Austin; and demonstrate excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate teaching and mentorship. We are particularly interested in investigators whose research can build connections across basic, clinical, and population-based approaches to nutrition and human health.

 Research Environment

The University of Texas at Austin is one of the nation’s leading public research universities and is ranked No. 7 among U.S. public universities by U.S. News & World Report. UT Austin provides a highly multidisciplinary environment for biomedical and nutritional research, with opportunities for collaboration among scientists, clinicians, and trainees across the university.

The Department of Nutritional Sciences maintains modern facilities supporting basic, clinical, and behavioral research. Additional facilities within the Dell Pediatric Research Institute support clinical testing, controlled feeding studies, body composition analysis, and nutritional assessment.

Faculty have access to state-of-the-art core facilities through the Center for Biomedical Research Support, including genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, bioinformatics, mouse genetic engineering, and imaging. Research requiring high-performance computing, large-scale data analysis, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and advanced visualization is supported by the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), one of the nation’s leading academic computing centers.

The Department of Nutritional Sciences has strong collaborative relationships with units throughout UT Austin, including the Dell Medical School and its Departments of Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Department of Quantitative and Systems Health Sciences, and Women’s Health. Opportunities for collaboration also extend across the College of Natural Sciences and UT Austin’s broader biomedical research community.

Faculty conducting research in relevant areas have opportunities to compete for major state-supported biomedical research funding through the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) and the newly established Dementia Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (DPRIT).

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in nutrition or a related biomedical field. Candidates should demonstrate a strong record of research accomplishment and the potential to develop or maintain an externally funded research program. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentorship.

Candidates considered for appointment at the Associate Professor level should have a record of scholarly achievement, external research funding, teaching, and mentorship commensurate with appointment at that rank.
