Synnott Family Chair in EU Law, School of Law, College of Business and Law

Permanent Whole Time Post

The School of Law, UCC wishes to appoint a Professor in EU Law titled the Synnott Family Chair in EU Law.

The Chair, generously funded by UCC alumnus, Aidan Synnott, is part of a strategic initiative to continue the development of UCC as a very significant centre of EU Law scholarship building on the existing strength in the School. The aim is to build upon the establishment of the Centre for European Integration in order to take advantage of the opportunities posed by UCC's interdisciplinary Futures programme, by Brexit and Ireland's growing significance as the principal common law state in the EU. The Chair is designed to facilitate disciplinary and interdisciplinary research in key areas of EU Law, promote high quality research partnerships, secure prestigious research grants and attract excellent PhD students.

The Chair will be required to provide research leadership in the area of EU Law including securing ERC funding, engage as appropriate with the UCC Futures programme, significantly contribute to and potentially lead the Centre for European Integration and, under the direction of the Dean of the School of Law, contribute to all School activities including teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level as appropriate. There may also be an opportunity for the Chair to take on the Dean role in due course.

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Law, the postholder must demonstrate research leadership, a very significant record of research output and excellence in teaching in an area of EU law. Applicants will be expected to hold a doctorate or equivalent and have a substantial level of experience.

Please note that Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance check may form part of the selection process.

For an information package including full details of the post, selection criteria and application process see www. ucc.ie/hr/vacancies.
