Job Summary/Basic Function

Work with the Weather Center Director to create short- and longer-range weather forecasts for the Lower Susquehanna Valley, as well as short-term streaming videos

Required Qualifications

Meteorology Major Recommendation of the supervising Weather Center Director.

Preferred Qualifications Job Duties

Tasks may include but are not limited to:

  • Mentor fellow shift members and non-lead forecasters
  • Give thorough, in-depth map discussions when Weather Center Director is absent or if on an evening shift
  • Assure the quality of all forecast products (i.e. preserve continuity when able, check for proper wording/spelling/grammar, confirm a professional WeatherLine recording, etc.)
  • Assure timely issuance of the CWS forecast, both on Weather Information Center (WIC) website and WeatherLine phone recording.
  • Answer calls into the Weather Center and field basic weather questions (pass on difficult forecast questions or media requests to the Weather Center Director)
  • Report shift problems or other concerns to Weather Center Director
  • Work with fellow students to create short-term streaming video forecasts and post to the WIC website
  • Working Conditions and Physical Effort

    Ability to work with the equipment and materials provided .
