About The Role

We are seeking to recruit a Student Support Advisor to join our Student Support team. This is a key, responsive front facing role contributing to the management of enquiries, providing student appointments and outreach, and working closely and collaboratively with colleagues in our diverse multi- disciplinary team. You will provide effective advice and support to students and respond to welfare and behaviour concerns, working flexibly, responsively and you will liaise with colleagues across the university partnership and with external agencies.

Our friendly Student Support team is part of Falmouth Exeter Plus which supports a diverse community of staff and over 7,000 students of Falmouth University and the University of Exeter in Cornwall. This is an exciting opportunity to join us in our mission to provide outstanding welfare and wellbeing support which enables students to learn and progress successfully at university.

Student Support is a uniquely dynamic and stimulating, multi-disciplinary team. We work collaboratively to respond positively to behaviour and welfare issues amongst students, connecting across the University partnership and with external agencies. We offer a range of assessment-based interventions, including advice and guidance on student life issues, mental health and psychological support, individual action plans, online resources and referral/ liaison, always keeping the whole student community at the heart of what we do.

About You

The successful candidate for the role will be a positive, compassionate and flexible team player, with experience of working in a relevant support environment. We particularly welcome applicants with experience of supporting or working with those presenting with severe and enduring mental health and/or with individuals in crisis.

The ideal candidate would have the following experience:

  • Substantial experience working with individuals with welfare, mental health and / or behavioural issues
  • Experience of gathering and providing information, advice or guidance in a welfare or pastoral context
  • Ability to adapt and transfer skills to a role in a university setting in the context of supporting the organisational approach and students to academically progress, working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of and commitment to working collaboratively and positively in a team
  • Ability to remain calm and deal sensitively and effectively with difficult situations in a high demand environment
