  • Position Summary:

    The Student Photographer position at UAF University Relations assists the Chief Photographer in covering a wide range of photography assignments, from in-studio and on-location portraits to documentary coverage of events, setting up and staging photo scenarios for specific usages, gathering a wide variety of “Campus Life” images, some sports photography and the occasional field research assignment. The Student Photographer is responsible for editing and processing the photos, following the appropriate procedures to ensure proper metadata entry, model release collection, photo shoot archiving and processed image sharing. The Student Photographer will have the opportunity to grow and expand their portfolio under the mentorship and direction of the Chief Photographer, and will also have the opportunity to assist in social media and marketing efforts. Student Photographer must be available to work occasional evening and weekend duties with advance notice.

    10Maintain a weekly work schedule calendar bases on assignments delegated by supervisor.Essential

    10Navigating through several archive platforms to search for and fill image requestsEssential

    1-70Assist Chief Photographer on photoshoots and library management. Edit and add metadata and assist student photographers with projects and distribution.Essential

    2-10All other duties as assigned.Essential

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Intermediate-level photography skills preferred, including both ambient and artificial lighting capabilities, with journalism experience a plus. Ability to interact and socialize with a variety of subjects under a variety of scenarios and conditions. Ability to process photos using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, and ability archive and share photo catalogs using Google Drive preferred.

    Typical Experience:

    Digital Photography required, Journalism preferred, marketing and social media a plus.

    Required Education or Training:

    Any Photography and/or Journalism classes, and school newspaper and/or yearbook experience.

    Salary Information:

    This is a part-time, non-exempt temporary student position.
