Your Opportunity

In accordance with Letter of Understanding #1 – Student Employees, and under supervision of the Indigenous Access & Services Coordinator and in coordination with the Indigenous Transition Planner, the Student Employee – Indigenous Services Peer Mentor will:     

Functions and Duties

The Student Employee will assist the supervisor by performing the following duties:

  1. Participate in peer mentor training, meetings and check-ins with Indigenous Access Services (IAS) staff 
  2. Inform visitors and peers about IAS
  3. Engage with all peers in the Indigenous Centre and inform and encourage them to engage in social events 
  4. Assist on how to navigate through the College environment 
  5. Submit completed student help forms to supervisor 
  6. Assist with and attend IAS and campus events 
  7. Organize and tidy the Indigenous Centre on regular basis
 

Education and Experience

Minimum 1 year in an accredited post-secondary program and be registered in a post-secondary program at Okanagan College  Prior work experience is an asset.  

Skills and Abilities

  • Basic understanding of Aboriginal people and culture, and/or desire to increase awareness
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (word, excel), internet
  • Prompt and self-motivated
  • Organizational and time-management 
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Cheerful attitude and positive role model
