    If you are looking for an employment opportunity to support the research, education and outreach at UAF apply to Alaska Sea Grant. We may be hiring from this pool during the year, and duties assigned will vary depending on specific department's needs. Applicants will be reviewed on an as-needed basis during the year.

    Duties:

    100Works under general direction. Exercises independent judgment and decision- making in developing new procedures or techniques. May involve supervision of other student employees. Examples of typical work include: performing complex computer programming, network operations or troubleshooting; advance technical computer maintenance; research, writing or assisting in writing technical reports; assisting in complex technical aspects of complex projects. May be responsible for a facility, building, activity, or program. May coordinate the use of equipment, building space, or programs.Essential

    Alaska Sea Grant, one of 34 Sea Grant programs nationwide, is a statewide program headquartered at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Sea Grant has been working in Alaska for over 50 years. Our work supports healthy coastal resources, strong economies, and vibrant communities. We do this through research, education, and outreach via Marine Advisory Program agents who live and work in coastal communities across Alaska.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Positive work ethic and good communication skills. Ability to work under general direction. Duties require considerable knowledge and skills such as computer, research, or translation skills. Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making.Ability to assist faculty member with research, writing or assisting in writing technical reports; assisting in complex technical aspects of research projects.

    Preferred Experience & Education:

    Typically requires some previous experience, although specific requirements vary by position. Some college or comparable education may substitute for experience. Applicants must comply with all UA Policy and Regulations requirements and limitations relating to student employees for the duration of their employment including enrollment and GPA requirements.

    Required Experience & Education:

    To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must: a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and c. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the MAU Senior StudentServices officer or his/her designee. d. Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer. e. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.

    Note a student can work up to 40 hours per week in the summer and 20 during the regular academic year.

    Salary Information:

    New hires will be placed on the UA student salary schedule, based on education and experience.
