Job Purpose

To provide support within the College of Medical Veterinary and Life Sciences (MVLS) Stores, Thurso Street, Garscube (Urquhart Building) and other locations on request as part of the Stores and Delivery teams to ensure an effective and efficient service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Responsible for the picking and packing of goods from the Store for onward delivery to end users across the College of MVLS. To meet customer expectations by ensuring that such tasks are carried out in a timely manner in line with Service Level Agreements.

2. Responsible for transfer and transporting goods direct to the lab/end user in a timely and appropriate manner in line with Service Level Agreements.

3.To be the first point of contact for delivery drivers. To update and manage the receipt of goods delivered by external suppliers and to. ensure that such goods are processed and distributed direct to the relevant labs as required.

4. To ensure that goods are handled and stored in the correct manner according to delivery instructions.

5.Responsible for monitoring and actioning job requests, via the Ivanti portal throughout Gilmourhill, and Garscube campuses and beyond. Contributing to assessing risk related to tasks and escalating as required. The use of specialist lifting equipment may be required.

6.Responsible for transporting various hazardous materials between laboratories including solvents, carcinogenic substances, corrosive substances, radioactive isotopes, sharps, moving heavy items including gas cylinders and bags of compost and assisting with liquid nitrogen dispensing in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.

7.To use and monitor the MVLS Stores ordering system to identify incoming orders.

8.To use, monitor and update the Agresso system to identify delivery details.

9.Responsible for general maintenance and cleaning of departmental vehicles including checking tyres for wear and pressure, water and oil on a daily basis and report faults or damage to the Stores manager.

10.To carry out and provide assistance with other reasonable duties to support the work of the MVLS teams at Thurso Street, Garscube and other locations on request.

11.Various other duties as required by line manager within the remit of this post as appropriate to experience and skills.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 4 in English and Mathematics (National 4) or equivalent

A2 Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software

Desirable

B1 Knowledge of Agresso system or equivalent

B2 Knowledge of University procedures

Skills

Essential

C1 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

C2 Competent numeracy and literacy skills

C3 Ability to prioritise workload in a rapidly changing high pressure environment

C4 Ability to recognise problems in their infancy thereby preventing escalation

C5 Ability to use lifting equipment

C6 Capable of working on own or as part of a team

C7 IT competence

C8 Ability to ensure paperwork is completed efficiently and accurately

D1 Understanding of policies and procedures relative to the role

E1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired necessary knowledge and skills in a similar area

E2 Manual handling experience

E3 Clean UK driving licence held for a minimum of 2 years

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 3, £22,728 - £23,581 per annum.

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended (permanent).
