Title Staff Assistant, Coordinator for Student Programs
Department Summary
The Center for Student Engagement was established to plan, implement, support,
and cultivate opportunities, programs and experiences for Bridgewater State
University students from pre-enrollment through commencement and transition to
an active alumni status. Successful candidates will be staff members that can
work collaboratively with their colleagues in CSE and across the university to
meet the mission of the department in serving and supporting our racially and
ethnically diverse campus community.

are, EXPERIENCE a sense of belonging and be empowered to LEAD. The Center for
Student Engagement executes its mission through:
Facilitating the university's orientation and new student transition
programs both prior to their enrollment and through their first semester
at BSU.
Campus-wide program development, and advising roles, the department will
offer students the chance to develop leadership skills and experience
interpersonal interaction that will enhance their personal and academic
lives.
Providing guidance to BSU's 80+ student organizations, supports the
planning and implementation of over 400 events per academic year
(including 70+ planned by Program Council).
Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Rondileau Student Union,
creating a welcoming environment for all members of the BSU community.
Building connections with families of students to ensure each student
receives support in as many ways as possible
Position Summary
The coordinator has focused responsibility for assisting in the creation,
development, and implementation of a wide range of expansive and intentional
University-wide events and programs for our diverse student population. The
goal of these programs is to ensure a welcoming and inclusive campus
environment while supporting our goal of each student persisting to
graduation. In working with student organizations and campus departments, the
coordinator has the primary responsibility for the creation and implementation
of weekend, daytime, and evening programming initiatives to foster student
engagement and vibrant campus life.
This position is an exempt, APA unit position and is subject to the terms of
that union agreement.

Essential Duties
Student Development:
Serve as the advisor to Program Council (PC), BSU's central student
event planning and experience creating organization. Work with PC to
create and support student-sponsored events for the BSU community that are
in concert with the university values of inclusion and equity.
Utilize diversity and social justice practices to promote student success
as it relates to student involvement and student leadership development.
Coordinate student delegations traveling to conferences focused on student
programming and leadership, i.e., the National Association for Campus
Activities, etc. Coordinate delegate selection and training and serve as
administrative advisor for student travel.
Support evening and weekend events as necessary/assigned.
Collaborate in the implementation intentional programs, services and
activities on behalf of the Center for Student Engagement, that will meet
the unique needs of targeted/designated student populations.
Program Coordination:
In collaboration with Program Council, and other campus partners,
coordinate student centered aspects of signature campus events, including
but not limited to Homecoming, Spring Traditions, departmental initiatives
for Opening/Kick-Off Week, New Student Orientation and other programs as
they arise.
Coordinate event planning and marketing efforts around late-night and
weekend campus events in collaboration with assigned student employees,
Program Council and other departments and partners in the division and
throughout the university.
Coordination of the mascot program for appearances at BSU community events
in collaboration with the Department of Athletics.
In collaboration with a student committee, coordinate the annual
Senior/Commencement Ball event, including event development, marketing and
ticket sales. Assist with the creation and implementation of additional
events and activities related to the completion of the undergraduate
experience. Support of programs to celebrate

Collaborate in the implementation intentional departmental programs,
activities, and events that will meet the unique needs of all student
populations.
Administrative:
Serve on divisional and university committees as assigned.
Monitor assigned budgets to ensure appropriate and efficient use of
resources.
Coordinate assessment efforts that inform data-driven decision-making for
the programs, services, and activities related to student programming.
Support overall department assessment efforts for established learning
outcomes across the department around student involvement and student
leadership development. Assist in the coordination of departmental events
as needed.
Support department, divisional and university programs as assigned. This
includes opening weekend, new student orientation, and commencement
activities.
Coordinate efforts across department staff and other key campus partners
to coordinate a student planned events calendar.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.
Knowledge of a campus activities setting and of program advising,
including experience working with external vendors or similar business
practices. Graduate work is acceptable equivalent as is significant
undergraduate paraprofessional experience.
An understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of campus
activities as a profession.
Experience working to incorporate inclusive practices, social and racial
justice practices into campus activities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills,
and attention to detail are essential.
Ability to maintain flexibility in a fast-paced environment. Ability to
juggle multiple priorities. • Ability to build working relationships with
students, faculty, administrators and staff.
Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to accommodate planned
programming initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student
Development or related field.
Prior major event management experience.
Prior budget management experience.

Office activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office
setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and interaction
with computer equipment; Occasional bending, reaching and lifting, pushing and
