Job Purpose
To support the Scottish Teachers Advancing Computing Science (STACS) Upskilling Project in the delivery of activities through developing materials and strategies to influence and assist teachers in adopting best-practice teaching methods at a national level to support the Scottish Technology Ecosystem Review talent pipeline and STACS.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Work collaboratively with STACS and Centre for Computing Science Education (CCSE) colleagues to develop high quality online and face-to-face teaching resources at primary and secondary level.
2. Design, develop and promote a range of relevant teaching resources and strategies to enhance Computing Science (CS) teaching provision.
3. Make effective use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment. This will involve blended and online provision.
4. Contribute to the on-going development and design of the curriculum in a manner that supports a research-led and scholarly approach to learning and assessment in CS.
5. Ensure an inclusive and evidence-based approach to facilitating learning in a range of face to face and online delivery formats such as tutorials, lectures, problem-based learning, that promotes teacher participation and learning outcome attainment.
6. Offer tailored advice and effective guidance to CS Teachers to facilitate reflection on and development of their own content and pedagogical content knowledge.
7. To sit on relevant Committees, Working Groups and Project teams related to CS learning in order to inform STACS service provision.
8. Engage with and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of national and international developments in CS.
9. Engage in appropriate scholarly activity to enhance your own and others' practices and to disseminate and publish this where appropriate.
10. Actively participate in supporting STACS to become a centre of excellence which is recognised throughout the sector for quality enhancement, innovation, and responsiveness to stakeholders' needs.
11. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
12. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Project.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles. Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s)
A2 An authoritative and up to date knowledge and understanding of the current teaching, learning and assessment practice with regards to school CS, specifically SQA National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher qualifications
A3 An up to date knowledge and understanding of the major issues relating to CS learning in Education
A4 Familiarity with virtual learning environments
Desirable:
B1 PhD or relevant professional experience

C1 Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
C2 Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish effective relationships with learners and staff both inside and outside the University
C3 The organisational, planning and administrative ability to handle a range of projects and activities simultaneously, timeously, and effectively

C6 Ability to use influencing skills when working with others to make service improvements

D1 Website and/or Virtual Learning Environment design skills
D2 Ability to design courses and produce creative learning materials to support the development of Learning and teaching strategies in the CS Education community
Experience
Essential:
E1 Relevant experience of teaching in the CS sector
E2 Experience of SQA marking
E3 Experience of using current literature to inform and develop professional practice
E4 Experience of working with staff in multifunctional teams
E5 Experience of delivering workshops, seminars, conducting one-to-one and small group discussions, and delivering presentations
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7, £40,247 - £45,163 per annum pro rata.
This post is part-time (1.5 hours per week), and open ended with funding available for up to 6 months in the first instance.
